CULTURALISTA…Is in fact The NEW DOPE. Except, it isn’t really that new at all. It actually represents getting back to yourself! This looks like pursuing your dreams, even if its against the norm. It’s sharing love, spreading it, accepting it and creating it within yourself. It means trying new adventures. It means to inspire others! It means to cultivate the community. It is The New Dope!
This past weekend I launched Culturalistas in the City. It is an effort to get people out, get people connected, and to serve the community! We kicked off Friday night at Red Peppers and we enjoyed networking, connecting visions, and sipping margaritas of course! Saturday morning we volunteered with Books for Africa. There we were able to sort and package book kits to be utilized all over Africa. We even found the treasures needed to complete an order for Uganda! That afternoon we supported the La-Tex Crawfish Boil. It was SO HOT! But we had a great time dancing to the Original Cash Money (I still remember when they checked in for the 99-2000). The weekend was awesome and it was so humbling to see the love and support. It was great to see so many men and women connect and serve, but not compete. Guests were even telling others about the Culturalista Movement! I really enjoyed meeting new Culturalistas too! I'm so grateful.
In reflecting, I realized how important it is to have a plan, speak that plan, have people to hold you accountable for that plan, and work that plan EVERY day until you accomplish your goal. It’s crazy to think that Culturalista came to life based off of a very hard time in my life when I was unemployed. Yet, the day that it’s extension CULTURALISTAS IN THE CITY launched…I was given a promotion at a job that I’ve only been at for 5 months. LOOK AT GOD! Grateful for the vision that started with a GroupMe that lead to a blog created on a girl's cabin trip that then lead to this past weekend soooo...
What’s Next?! I’m glad you asked! I will be having a kickoff weekend to each season...Summer KickOff on deck. Some other upcoming events include: Adventures with Blue (where we follow our fearless, adventurous leader Blue on a mountain hike), Let’s Talk About It (A discussion on what it looks like to live life on your own terms; CULTURALISTA), Supporting the Arts (Museums, exhibits, and my favorite bands), and I can't forget its concert and festival season (Jazz Fest, Pink Print, and J. Cole) to name a few. I will also be doing Culturalistas in the City weekends in some of my other fav cities within the next year..so stay tuned! I will be launching my mentoring program in the fall, too! S
Huge Shout Out to my SQUAD! Those who helped create tag lines, shirt designs, plan events, and showing up to support! None of the efforts went unnoticed and I'm extremely grateful. So here's to the new dope...and doing MORE dope things with dope people!
Signed,
The Culturalista
